How to Refresh Your Celebrant Website Without Starting From Scratch

If your website is feeling a little out of date, you’re not alone. As celebrants, our business evolves over time, our style changes, our ideal clients shift, and the way we talk about what we do becomes more confident and refined. And when it’s time to update your website, that doesn’t mean you need a full website overhaul every year. In fact, small, strategic updates can go a long way in keeping things current and compelling.

Here are some practical ways to breathe new life into your website, no redesign required.

1. Start With a Single Page

Don’t overwhelm yourself by thinking you have to fix everything at once. Choose one page, like your homepage, “About Me,” or even your contact page, and give it a focused refresh.

Things to check:

  • Does the copy still sound like you
  • Is the tone warm, welcoming, and aligned with your current brand?
  • Is your call-to-action clear (e.g. “Get in touch,” “Let’s create your perfect ceremony”)?
  • Do any links, forms, or buttons need updating?

2. Update Your Photos

Images play a huge role in first impressions. Every website update should include this step for maximum impact. Swapping out one or two dated images for recent, high-quality photos from ceremonies you loved can instantly elevate the look and feel of your site.

Tip: Use photos that reflect the type of ceremonies and clients you want to attract now. That gorgeous beach elopement or heartfelt backyard wedding? Showcase it!

3. Sprinkle in Some SEO Magic

SEO can sound intimidating, but at its core, it’s just about helping people find you. One way to do that is by naturally including keywords your ideal clients might be typing into Google, or other search engines.

Easy places to add keywords:

  • Page titles (what shows in your browser tab)
  • Headings (especially H1 and H2 tags)
  • First paragraph of your text
  • Image alt text and file names (so many sites miss this vital step)

Examples of useful phrases:

“Wedding/Funeral celebrant in [Your Area],” “personalised wedding ceremonies,” “elopement celebrant,” “naming day ceremonies,” etc.

4. Add Social Proof

Fresh testimonials go a long way in building trust. If you’ve received lovely feedback from recent couples or families, add a short quote with their name (and permission). You can even link to their Google review.  Update this part of your website each time you get a new review.

Bonus idea: Add a little rotating testimonials section or carousel to your homepage.

5. Make Sure It Works on Mobile

More than half your website visitors are probably viewing your site on their phones (84% of mine do). Pull up your site on your mobile and check:

  • Is the text readable without zooming?
  • Do images load quickly and look good?
  • Are your buttons easy to tap?

If something looks clunky or broken, it’s worth fixing. Even small tweaks can improve user experience and keep people browsing longer.

6. Refresh Your Language

Even if the structure of your site is solid, your language might need a refresh. Over time, our voice becomes more natural, confident, and aligned with the partners and families we love working with.

Try this exercise:

Read your “About Me” page out loud. Does it sound like the way you’d introduce yourself in person? If not, soften it, simplify it, or inject a bit more personality. Consider adding a short introduction video. People choose you for being you, so let them see who that is.

Progress Over Perfection

Remember, your website is a living, breathing part of your business and it’s meant to evolve. Making one small improvement at a time is more sustainable than waiting until everything feels “ready.”

So go ahead, pick one page and start there. A tiny refresh today can make a big impact tomorrow.
