Ask Dinah: How do I set up my Google Business Profile?
Emma contacted me to ask about her Google Business Profile. I’d shared how important it is in our Business Skills for Celebrants Group. I’ve detailed the steps below. Once you’ve followed the steps and completed the process, share a link to yours in the comments section and let me know how simple you found the process.
Interview with a Celebrant: Jules Buchanan
I was most surprised to understand how little time is allocated, especially at crematoria. I’ve been to funerals of course but I didn’t really consider how long each ceremony was – just 20 minutes – it’s such a short and limited time for a goodbye so getting things right to allow for a life celebration within those parameters is critical.
With the wedding celebrant training, I didn’t realise how creative ceremonies could be. That I can help couples to really design a unique ceremony that is written specifically for them, allowing them to have their wedding exactly the way they want it to be. Like many people, I was married by a registrar with a cut and paste template nearly 20 years ago – I didn’t know there was an alternative at the time.

Interview with Ash Hayhurst – Author and Funeral Professional
There is an alarming amount of misinformation in the media and a lot of anti-trans statements coming from the government, so the best thing you can do is increase your confidence about the laws that currently exist, and stand your ground if you’re challenged. If there’s one piece of information I’d love everyone to take away from this interview it’s that a trans person doesn’t need a Gender Recognition Certificate to have their identity affirmed when their death is registered.

Julia Hawkes – one of my Celebrant Role-models
Professionally I am saddened to see websites still referring to gay marriage or even worse same sex marriage – I simply don’t understand why there needs to be differentiation, why is there a need to suggest that marriage is somehow different for different groups of people? My approach to all couples is the same; the care, consideration and kindness shown to couples when I am planning their weddings is the same for every couple I meet. Many couples I meet have complicated family dynamics, sensitivities to be aware of, things they feel passionately about, things they wish to celebrate, challenges they have overcome – these are not unique circumstances! I think that sometimes separate web sections are introduced by well-meaning celebrants who wish to demonstrate their inclusivity but I would encourage them to rethink! Instead review the language and images used, the resources shared with couples, consider all the couples who will be looking at your website
